CMNZ Auckland Chamber Music Society Competition

After another performance in the University of Auckland Chamber Music Concert on the 10th, The Akato Trio had their exam on tuesday (14th). We performed three contrasting pieces including Beethoven Piano Trio Op.1 No.1 first movement, Brahms Piano Trio C minor 3rd movement and Shostakovich Piano Trio No.1. We had great audience and the performance went well!

This exam was also the preliminary round for the Auckland Chamber Music Society Competition.

We were fortunate to have been selected to be one of the top 3 Finalists!

The Final was held on sunday (19th) at the University of Auckland Music Theatre. This concert was also recorded by Radio NZ to be broadcasted later in the year! The adjudicator was Euan Murdoch (Chief Executive of Chamber Music NZ), Igor Naidin (Violist of Borodin Quartet) and Allan Badley (University of Auckland Head of Music).

We are grateful to announce that Akato Trio has gained First Place and won the 2014 Auckland Chamber Music Society Competition!!!! The prize was $4000 and 3 free passes to all the 2015 Kaleidoscope Chamber Music NZ Concert Series!!

We have definitely had a huge improvement in our performance this year as a trio but there is always things to work on, and we are excited to work on these pieces even further to prepare for the upcoming Royal Overseas League Competition in Waikato later in the year!
