Oceania Premier - A.Ifukube, Sonata for Violin and Piano

Very good things have been happening recently!

I am very pleased to announce that we will be doing another Oceania region premier performance!

The Sonata, for Violin and Piano written by one of the greatest composers of Japan, Akira Ifukube.

Ifukube taught many successful composers of Japan and is widely recognized throughout the world not only as a contemporary classical composer, but as the creator of the famous Godzilla Theme as well as its iconic roar and sound of foot steps. Ifukube has quite a unique quality to his music and this is due to his strong influences from the music of Ainu, and this Sonata is no exception.

The Sonata for Violin and Piano was written later in his life as a composer and although received very well at the time, the work has regretfully been overlooked in recent years, possibly due to the noticeable weakening in popularity of classical music in Japan. This work is far to beautiful to be hidden away and we thought the Japan theme concert would be a perfect opportunity for us to present this wonderful work to the people in New Zealand for the first time.

On the Japan Concert, we will also be playing a rarely performed and fantastic work by Toru Takemitsu, From far Beyond Chrysanthemums and November Fog, for Violin and Piano. One of my favorite compositions for violin and piano, along side Hika, also by Toru Takemitsu.

Please be updated on this website of more announcements on the Japan Concert in New Zealand :)
