Borodin Quartet Concert

October 25, 2014

We went to watch the concert by  internationally acclaimed  Borodin String Quartet! They performed one of the greatest String Quartet repertoire to a large audience in Auckland Town Hall!

First half started with Myaskovsky's String Quartet. A work that is not played often and was interesting to hear new music!   Followed by  Shostakovich String Quartet No.11.  It was one of the most amazing work i have ever heard with a string quartet repertoire,  very delicate and dark with many tone colors and inner emotion slowly releasing out.  The silence that lasted nearly a minute after the piece ended showed how involved the audience was with the music.  Finally after the interval, they performed the late Beethoven's masterpiece  String Quartet Op.130.   It is an unusual work with 6 movements with a beautiful fifth movement which was the highlight of the piece.

It was great to hear Igor Naidin (the adjudicator from the Auckland Chamber Music Society Competition) play the Viola in the string quartet!   The professional performance by the quartet was a great inspiration to all of us!    Also we got to talk to him again at the post reception and gained many advice for our playing and what we can work on the pieces.

It was a great concert to realize once again the beauty of making Chamber Music!
